Dave the Slave – Putting Passion before Profit
During a recent visit to the island of Kauai, HI I saw a t-shirt booth at a local market that caught my eye. I liked the message and feel of the brand, but I didn't have any cash and asked the owner if he accepted credit cards. He said "no, but take it. You can pay me later."I had a smile on my face as I had just witnessed a pure act of integrity. This is how I met Dave the Slave. I showed him no more reason to trust me than anyone else. I get the feeling he isn't doing this for the money; but is simply following his passion.

The more fixated we are on our winning the more challenging it becomes to live with integrity. The problem with expectations is that most often they are alligned with an external outcome, not a standard that we hold ourselves to. Integrity is not about results, it's about how you acted. I think we should have a new job title in America, “Chief Integrity Officer". Isnt it time organizations in America took integrity more seriously? It seems that our current society, whether it be the open market (capitalism), the legal system, or the federal government, is not working to curb what is an obvious ethical and moral failure of our large organizations. Nor will congress enacting truck loads of new regulation help either, not to mention the cost of growth that will result. Sure, these protections may work in the short run, but then people will find loopholes and new markets will be open up that are outside these measures and we will have more pain and more damage to good, hard working people because of greed and corruption.
